Allergen Details

Allergen name: Hum j 6
Allergen source: Major taxonomic group: Plantae Eudikotyledons
Order: Rosales
Species: Humulus japonicus (Japanese hop)
NCBI Taxomony ID: 3485
Biochemical name:Pectin methylesterase inhibitor (PMEI; pectinesterase inhibitor)
MW(SDS-PAGE):10-15 kDa
Allergenicity:Twenty-two patients with respiratory allergy who were sensitized to Japanese hop (specific IgE measured by ImmunoCAP) were tested. Of those, 19 (86%) had IgE to natural Hum j 6 purified from Humulus japonicus pollen as determined by ELISA. In contrast, recombinant allergens produced in E. coli Origami and Pichia pastoris bound only low amounts of IgE from 10 and 11 sera, respectively. The natural allergen is highly phosphorylated, but dephosphorylation did not affect IgE binding, as determined by immunoblot.
