Allergen Details
| Allergen name: | Cry j 3 |
|---|---|
| Allergen source: |
Major taxonomic group: Plantae Pinopsida Order: Cupressales Species: Cryptomeria japonica (Sugi, Japanese cedar) NCBI Taxomony ID: 3369 |
| Biochemical name: | Thaumatin-like protein (pathogenesis-related protein PR-5) |
| Molecular mass: | 27 kDa |
| Allergenicity: | One hundred patients with allergy to Japanese cedar pollen, diagnosed based on typical symptoms and specific IgE (ImmunoCAP class >= 2), were tested. Of those, 27 sera contained IgE specific to highly purified natural Cry j 3. The allergen could activate basophils from a Cry j 3-sensitized patient in a histamine release assay. |

The N-terminal 13 residues of nCry j 3 were determined by Edman sequencing (see allergenicity reference). This sequence corresponds to "Cry j 3.8" isolated from pollen mRNA by the submitter (nucleotide acc. no. AB254807) but also to 8 other sequences identified in the Cryptomeria japonica genome with 95-96% identical amino acid sequences. Hence, no isoallergen record was added to this entry.
